RAE Engineering offers a full service laboratory that provides comprehensive services in coating performance evaluation, failure analysis, physical testing, chemical analysis, field testing and QA/QC. We assure our clients that the services we provide in the field or our laboratory are of the highest quality, integrity and excellence.

  • Determine if a particular coating meets specification
  • Determine why a coating failed and suggest remedies
  • Determine coating thickness and number of coats, using stereo microscopy
  • Identify unknown coatings and develop new coating formulations

  • Create custom test protocols where none exist
  • Measure performance under simulated conditions – adhesion, impedance, cathodic disbondment, blistering, cracking, foam content, etc.
  • Utilize autoclave testing equipment up to 175° and 1500 psig; H2S and brines
  • Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy – AC (ISO 16773) and DC
  • Microscopy – identify contaminants, structure, fillers, etc.
  • Determine physical and chemical measurements using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
  • Accelerated weather and thermal cycling – QUV exposure, salt, fog, etc.
  • Wear and erosion testing using Taber Abrasion (ASTM D4060) and Slurry Erosion (ASTM G6)
